Currently, we are seeking a Product Designer to be based at our corporate office in Cincinnati, OH.

As a Product Designer, you understand the relationship between art, science, technology, and business. You will spend your time developing new textile-centric products and improving existing ones through planning, designing, and modeling products, producing prototypes, and conducting rigorous testing. You will use your comprehensive knowledge of technology, materials, and manufacturing methods to improve the design and usability of Standard Textile's products.

On each project, you will be working collaboratively and cross functionally within a small team of talented innovators. These include design engineers, textile experts, market and business analysts and business leaders with whom you will define the right problem to solve for the Healthcare, Hospitality, Interior Design and Home Divisions, focusing on product aesthetics and functionality.

YOU WILL BE KNOWN FOR THESE:

YOUR WORK WILL INCLUDE:

Internally:

  • Meeting with internal or external clients to establish the design brief, including the concept, performance, and production criteria
  • Taking part in specialist or multidisciplinary team meetings
  • Working as part of a cross-functional team to develop products from idea to market to meet corporate strategies and financial goals through a disciplined new product development process
  • Making presentations to senior management or clients, either when bidding for a contract or to present design proposals
  • Developing, managing, and sustaining documentation of new designs to ensure high-level accuracy in what is communicated

Externally:

  • Translating customer and market research input to inform product design changes
  • Producing and presenting design proposals, sketches, and samples for customer presentation

 Development:

  • Sketching initial design ideas, making working models and testing the design concept while considering constraints (budget, deadlines, environmental impact, health, and safety regulations)
  • Identifying the suitability, performance, costs, and availability of material

Capability:

  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of new design and production techniques and new technologies that impact Standard Textile's relevant product categories
  • Producing detailed design concepts and specifications using detailed hand drawings, Computer Aided Design software or Adobe Suite
  • Developing prototypes, samples or working models by hand or by using prototyping equipment and evaluating
  • test samples and production standards
  • Researching and experimenting current trends in color, patterns, fabric, materials, and market requirements

Travel:

  • Occasionally traveling to production facilities and evaluating the feasibility of production

YOU WILL HAVE ACCOMPLISHED THESE

  • 3+ years of experience in design and development of textile products experience in relevant product categories is preferred
  • BS or BA in product/textile/fashion design or equivalent from an accredited institution. Any courses that offer a design element as part of general design or technology studies would also be relevant. Including: product design, spatial design, 3D design and textile design
  • Previous work experience in a related field or involvement in an industrial environment, design competition, exhibitions, or other related projects with a high degree of technical knowledge balanced with creative ability and a hands-on approach
  • Proficient computer skills, including three-dimensional conceptual ability and CAD (computer-aided design), and Adobe Suite
  • A high degree of technical knowledge balanced with an excellent design aesthetic and a hands-on approach for visual, spatial and commercial awareness
  • Proficiency in the following is desirable:
    • Industrial processes, techniques, associated equipment, and materials
    • New and emerging technologies in product materials, treatments & processes
    • Trends in shape, material finishes new product areas and techniques
    • Evaluating designs for cost effectiveness, considering material options, global sourcing, manufacturability, etc.
    • Jacquard woven and print design techniques
    • Yarn/fibers and basic concepts of pattern design
    • Designing for both woven and print fabricsYou have an innate ability for creating super cool products and you back it with your solid design prowess. Above all others, you have the creative vision to nail the next epic trend.
